Homo Faber - Genealogies of Ornament

Exhibited in the Homo Faber event of April 2022, this hand-carved panel is a three-dimensional interpretation of 16th century ornament catalogues. The jewel above is emblematic of the genealogy of ornament, with the two central flowers representing Europe and Japan. The tools of the carver below speak of the heritage and skill of the carving process itself. The panel was commissioned and designed in collaboration with the incredible fashion curator Judith Clark.
